Unconscious Bias - Offline (fully self paced) (T0015)

Description
Unconscious Bias - Creating a sustainable future by valuing diversity

This offline, fully asynchronous, self-paced) course has its counterparts in the WISE half-day face-to-face offering and also in the blended online edition. It is primarily aimed at those who have responsibility for people management or leadership, however, everyone can benefit from an understanding of unconscious or implicit bias and the ways in which it can impact upon the interactions we have with staff, colleagues, friends and the wider world.
The course material will take approximately a week to cover (although 6-7 hours elapsed) and consists of offline (asynchronous) work which can be done by the learner at any time.

This course is aimed at leaders and managers within an organisation, however, it is clear that those who do not have leadership responsibilities will greatly benefit from an understanding of unconscious or implicit bias.

Learners will cover:
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including the UK law pertaining to these
• The business case for diversity
• Unconscious or implicit bias and its implications in personal and business life
• Recruitment, Appraisal and Business decision making and the impact of bias on
these
• Methods for understanding bias within the business
• Ways of limiting the impact of bias in recruitment, appraisal and decision making
• Personal change

Methodology

The course is made up of:
Four asynchronous webinars, discussion forums where attendees will have the opportunity to interact with other learners and the course facilitators and work modules. These consist of reading, tests, quizzes, films, assignments and further discussions to ensure that learners stay engaged whilst taking on board the importance of managing personal biases.
