Unconscious Bias - Creating a sustainable future by valuing diversity

This blended (Computer based self paced AND instructor led) learning course has its counterpart in the WISE half-day face-to-face offering and also in the fully online edition. It is primarily aimed at those who have responsibility for people management or leadership, however, everyone can benefit from an understanding of unconscious or implicit bias and the ways in which it can impact upon the interactions we have with staff, colleagues, friends and the wider world.

The course material will take approximately a week to cover and consists of offline (asynchronous) work which can be done by the learner at any time, mixed with scheduled webinars run and managed by an experienced professional facilitator.

This course is aimed at leaders and managers within an organisation, however, it is clear that those who do not have leadership responsibilities will greatly benefit from an understanding of unconscious or implicit bias. It is expected that companies will purchase this course to ensure that their learners have a deep and full understanding of Implicit or Unconscious Biases and their impact within the workplace. Learners will cover:
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including the UK law pertaining to these
• The business case for diversity
• Unconscious or implicit bias and its implications in personal and business life
• Recruitment, Appraisal and Business decision making and the impact of bias on these
• Methods for understanding bias within the business
• Ways of limiting the impact of bias in recruitment, appraisal and decision making
• Personal change


The course is made up of:
Four synchronous meeting/webinars where attendees will have the opportunity to interact with colleagues and the facilitator.
Interspersed with these are several quizzes, personal diversity tests, reading assignments and group work which can be completed in the office or by Zoom, Skype or MS Teams by participants.
